Frequently Asked Questions

All events associated with the Saint Katherine Formal will be held in College Station, TX (details will be sent to all registrants in the week prior). Saturday evening vespers and Sunday morning Divine Liturgy will be at St Silouan Orthodox Church in town.

The Formal itself will be in Bethancourt Ballroom at the Texas A&M Memorial Student Center (MSC).

The best place to park on campus for the evening is the Gene Stallings Parking Garage. We’ll be in touch before the dance to let you know how to get from the parking garage to the chapel/ballroom.

The Saint Katherine Formal weekend will be filled with opportunities to connect with other young adult Orthodox Christians. Saturday evening will have scheduled social events & outings, including Great Vespers at a local Orthodox parish, while Sunday will include Divine Liturgy, a lunch mixer, and time to get ready, and take photos, and, of course, the Formal.

The Formal will begin with a full dinner buffet in accordance with the Nativity Fast of the Orthodox Church (alternative meal options will be available based on dietary restrictions provided in registration).

After the meal, there will be games, music, and multicultural & social dancing (Greek, Arabic, line, etc.) as well as a photo booth to help you capture memories from the evening until 10:30pm.

For the first time ever, we’ll also have a live band performing!

If you don’t know how to dance, don’t worry! A caller from the band will give instructions to help get you started.

Attendees are welcome to participate in as many aspects of the Saint Katherine Formal weekend as they’d like. If you only want to attend the formal, just make sure you purchase a ticket before they run out!

Out-of-town attendees that purchase the overnight lodging ticket extension will be placed at a pre-reserved local AirBnB for the weekend of the formal (Sat & Sunday night).

Each of the AirBnBs is a local house reserved for a group of 4-6 formal attendees of the same sex ONLY. The houses will include bathrooms, showers, kitchen, bedding, and towels.

Whether you stay in town for one of both nights of the formal, the overnight lodging ticket add-on is the same cost ($80).

If you’d like a scholarship for a reduced cost for your overnight accommodations, you can simply email Alexandros at apandazis@ocf.net to request a coupon code to waive part or all of your registration fee.

Rides to/from College Station Easterwood Airport ONLY can be requested up to one week prior to the formal. We are not able to provide rides to/from any of the Houston/Austin airports.

The dress for the evening is semi-formal (dresses for women, jacket & tie for men). All guests attending the formal are asked to dress in the Christian spirit of modesty.

Men, please refrain from unbuttoned shirts and tight pants (we suggest wearing a suit that you can be mobile in so that you can more comfortably dance and move around).

Women, please refrain from dresses/skirts above the knees, strapless dresses, and low cut tops (we suggest you wear flats or comfortable shoes so that you can more comfortably dance and move around).

Games will be stationary and social. They’ll be about giving you an opportunity to connect with and meet new people or bond with your date.

Up to you! The night is designed for both singles and couples. Either way, you’ll have plenty of freedom to spend time with people you already know and make connections with those you don’t.

No! Orthodox Christians are welcome to bring non-Orthodox dates, and non-Orthodox Christians are welcome to attend in any capacity as long as you are open to enjoy the evening in the Christian spirit.

Bringing a date over 25 years old is no problem. As long as one person in a party (or “couple”) is between the ages of 18-25, the second person may be up to 30 years old. Unfortunately, if you or your date are under 18, you’ll have to wait until next year.

ALL formal tickets include entry into all events for the weekend, including the showing of El Tonto Por Cristo on Saturday evening.

Non-students can purchase tickets for the film here.

Saint Katherine is the patron saint of our campus community.

As a highly educated young adult, Saint Katherine stood up to the pagan rulers of her day and defeated the Roman empire’s greatest thinkers in theological debates.

She suffered and was martyred for her faith in 305 A.D. Since then, she has been a guide and example for young Christians seeking knowledge and faith throughout the world.
